Shortly after throwing, the Spider Grenade splits into 3 small mechanical spiders. Each spider seeks out the nearest target and attempts to explode on them, dealing significant damage in a small area. The Spider Grenade tends to be most effective against a single target, or small packs that are tightly grouped (Minion Androids in particular).
If the Spider Grenade lands in an area in which there are no targets within 50 ft, the detonator spiders will explode upon spawning. While 50 ft is a decent radius, care must still be taken when aiming a throw.
Note that the Spiders are vulnerable to weapons fire - quick-thinking opponents in PvP can shoot them down before they explode, and it's possible (but unlikely) for them to get shot down if there's a ton of AoE damage flying around during a PvE mission. This particular quirk also extends to the Device Mods - instead of using the normal Weapon Damage Mod, use Pet Damage Mod. They can also be improved using a Survivor Mod, however it would rarely be useful.
A specific epic varient of the Spider Grenade is available for purchase at level 11 from Dome City's Assault Gear vendor for 200 Mercenary Tokens. Uncommon, rare, and other epic varients are occasionally awarded upon successful completion of PvE and PvP missions.
