The Legion Side Arm is the standard issue pistol of Legion Army officers. It is one of three weapons which may drop during PvE and open world instances that are exclusively available to Medics, the others being the Legion Combat Knife and the Adrenaline Gun.
Compared to the other Medic ranged weapons, the Legion Side Arm deals more damage per hit but also has the slowest fire rate.
After calculations it also has the lowest DPS in the game.
The weapon is exclusive to the Medic and can only drop to players of the class. In other words, if a Legion Side Arm drops and you are not a Medic, you will not receive it (although if you have a medic in your team, he/she will).
Legion Sidearms will only drop from Legion Sergeants, who are mainly found in the eastern Sonoran Desert, south of the Water Works. They are usually supported by Grunts and Elkas Scouts, so it may be wise to be supported by another class such as an Assault (Assaults also receive drops by killing Grunts; see Legion SMG).
There are two quality levels for the Side Arm, either uncommon (green) or rare (blue); epic (purple) is not available. The drop rate is estimated at less than 5%, with some estimates in the range of .5 to 2%.
This could be bugged at the moment and sergeants may only be dropping knives and have the same drop tables as legion grunts. Some have killed well over 2000 sergeants a day and have only seen knives drop from them.
Sergeants now drop Combat knives and Legion sidearms. These are the only mobs that can drop 2 different loot drops thus lowering your chances of a Legion sidearm even further as a Combat knife could drop in it's place instead.
